The act of planting a tree, creating a special place for meditation or tending a garden in memory of someone who has died can be a source of comfort and healing for those left behind. "Human beings are going to remember, which is one of the best things we do in connection with death and grief. To make a special spot to remember somebody, I think that's a very healthy thing to do," said Mark Bredholt, director of spiritual care and bereavement services at Hospice of Tri-County in Columbia, S.C.
