Ray Dean Neil, 79, Springfield, MO died at 12:30 PM Wednesday, October 16, 1996 in St. John's Regional Health Center. Ray was born Jan. 21, 1917, in Aldrich, MO., the son of William Thomas and Favel Painter Neil. Ray was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Alta Austin Neil, a son and daughter-in-law, Lendal and Linny Neil, Fair Grove, a daughter and son-in-law Beverly and Mike Reid, Springfield, four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Maxine Switzer, Springfield; and many friends. He was preceded in death by a brother, Harry. Ray was a quiet dignified man with a dry sense of humor. Ray served his country during World War II in France. He was a construction worker operating heavy equipment and was involved in many large local projects during the post war building boom. Ray raised a son as a single parent and enjoyed the outdoors especially camping, hunting and fishing. He was also a member of High Street Baptist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to High Street Baptist Church, in care of the Seniors Division.
