Raku Pottery Urns
Raku pottery is an ancient Japanese firing process in which each urn is removed from the kiln while it's still red hot, the molten glaze is silky and glowing. The hot pottery is placed in a bed of straw or leaves in an air-tight chamber. The dry plant material catches fire to create a combination of red hot flame and smoke that transforms the glaze to create the unique, natural colors and textures of raku. Each Raku fired urn is one of a kind work of art.
The Urn Garden potters are American artists that shape the natural beauty of clay into an original art piece that serves as a memorial for your loved one. Often, inspiration for these gorgeous pots come from nature drawing from dragonfly's, butterflies, horses, and other animals. Even leaves, twigs, and berries are sometimes pressed into the clay to create unique patterns and textures. Glazes will often be earthy coppers, blue, gold, and green and be either a glossy or matte finish depending on the style. Since pottery is such an ancient art, the artists even use historical examples and are inspired by archeological finds such as Celtic and Druid motifs, and Roman influence.
Since the pottery is hand crafted and not mass produced, the time to buy is when you see a style that appeals to you. It's not uncommon for families to return to the site after seeing one of the beautiful Raku uns only to discover that it's no longer available. The good news is that we can create an original work of art especially for you. Call for details if you don't see what you are looking for.
