It’s easy to get overwhelmed when you are shopping for an urn for ashes. Sometimes the customer will have the cremation urn narrowed down to a color choice, often it’s blue. Reasons vary from representing military service in the Navy, a December birth date, or the obvious, it was a favorite color. Lately, it’s been to remember a loved one’s blue eyes. Gets me every time.
Two favorite styles usually come to the forefront. A steely blue number that is actually more silver than blue and depends on the light. And then, one of our family favorites, Mystic Blue.
Both urns are the traditional vase shape sized to contain the ashes of an adult. Heavy metal with secure threaded lids. Sometimes families will also choose a memorial on a smaller scale, like cremation jewelry or a vial for ashes.
The cobalt blue glass vials are small sturdy pieces that can be hung on a keychain or from the rear view mirror in the car. Our customers get creative with this style of vial.
Blown glass pendants with swirls of peacock blue, indigo, and green can pay tribute to beautiful blue eyes and stays close to your heart. The pendant has a small chamber that will contain a bit of ashes and is secured with a stainless steel threaded stopper. The nice thing about this jewelry is, no one would know the secret you are wearing.
Blue has meaning, not just for the shoppers that are trying to match blue eyes, also for Mexico where blue is associated with mourning, as opposed to black in American culture. Christianity often portrays the Virgin Mary with blue robes. In yoga, blue stands for the throat chakra, which covers speech, hearing, and spiritual communication. In the Middle East, blue has sacred meanings and is used in mosques and art to convey paradise.
Regardless of the cultural and spiritual impact of the color blue. Blue is one of the most serene and calm colors. It’s used to paint bedrooms to promote rest. In nature, the ocean and sky, icy cold weather play out in various shades.
Even though toys and baby clothes are designated with light blue, overall it’s the least gender specific and could apply to both men and women. Personality traits of your loved one can be highlighted with characteristics like serene, calm, spiritual, or even….depressed.
If you need ideas or have questions about finding an urn for ashes that works the best for your needs, we can help you create an affordable memorial.

My only comment would be to please refer to them as cremated remains, not ashes, ashes are what is left over in your fireplace or barbecue grill. In our state, cremated remains are treated the same as casketed remains. I realize your trying be clever and hip with this article. But I feel using correct terminology helps to educate the public as to just how important and respectful we treat a loved one, rather they select cremation or burial.

Hi Brad, thanks for the comment. Not trying to be hip or clever, just trying to reach our customers using speech that THEY use to search for information.
