5 Ways to Use Memorial Stones

January 15, 2016 urngarden.com

5 Ways to Use Memorial StonesWhen a loved one dies, it is becoming more commonplace to place a memorial stone in her honor. It is a personal yet comforting reminder that she now lives in the hearts of her family and friends. Memorial stones are made from resin, hand-cast stone or concrete. Depending on where you live, resin stones and statuary may need to be sheltered during certain seasons as extreme heat or cold might cause damage. Concrete is waterproof and durable and can stand up to even the harshest weather and last for many years. If needed, personalized monuments can easily be touched up with masonry paint if fading occurs over time.

Five Ways to Use Memorial Stones
If you are thinking of placing a memorial stone in memory of a loved one who died, there are several ways in which to do this so others can share their sentiments too.

1.    Tree and plant dedication: If you are holding a special tree planting as part of a living memorial, you can    add a dedication stone identifying and paying tribute to your loved one.

2.    Sacred space:  Dedicating a special place such as a spot in your backyard can be deemed a sacred space. It needn’t be associated with religion. This space, where a lovely memorial stone can be placed, is simply an area worth of dedication or respect.

3.    Park: Since parks are public places, memorial stones are typically placed in them when a tree, bench or plant is dedicated  to a public figure or notable resident.

4.    Office or workplace: Some places of employment dedicate a room, building, courtyard, or other spot with a memorial stone or plaque typically in honor of a founder, long-time employee or someone in a leading role passes away.

5.    Garden memorial: This is probably one of the most traditional ways to honor someone at home. You can place a memorial  stone in a garden filled with your loved one’s favorite plants, trees or other types of garden décor.

Route 66 Motorcycle Cremation Urn

October 18, 2015 urngarden.com

This time of year is so perfect for motorcycle riding, mild temps, beautiful fall colors make for a great road trip. One of our customers bought several of the motorcycle urn pendants to honor a fallen friend who was a renowned award winning custom bike builder. Several of the guys planned to have the little charms filled with his ashes and then mount the pendant under the headlight on the front forks so that their friend could always ride along. I’ve heard of the biker bells that are sometimes mounted on the crank case or on the underside of the frame. The pendants we sell are surgical stainless steel and will wear well on the road.

In addition to the jewelry, the family had commissioned an urn that was being customized from a Harley motorcycle engine, that they hoped would be ready in time for the funeral.

A less expensive option to memorialize a biker might be the Route 66 motorcycle urn. This is a traditional metal vase shape and has a hand painted highway sunset scene that features the mother road. So pretty and another way to pay tribute to the lifestyle.

With space for up to three lines of an engraved sentiment, this adult size urn can hold up to 200 cubic inches. Made from metal, it also has a secure threaded lid. Help honor your loved one’s memory of his or her rides along the “Main Street of America”  beautifully designed by Urn Garden.

Riding along Route 66 is a lifelong dream for many bikers no matter what part of the country they live. The roughly 2,400-mile Mother Road runs through parts of California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri (its birthplace) and Illinois. It is by far, one of the most popular and scenic byways in North America.

Motorcyclists careening down Route 66 truly understand the romance of the road. Long rides and days away from the stresses of every day life are what many bikers relish and miss when they are grounded.

Although Route 66 is one of the country’s first highways, only about 85 percent of it is navigable today. Most of the road has two- and four-lane arteries and unpaved sidewalk roads. Many local businesses still get their “kicks” on Route 66 by showcasing the highway’s famous logo.

October 12, 2015 urngarden.com

“His office looked like an Egyptian tomb”. That’s how one of our customers who was buying an urn for her husband described his style. He was intrigued by the history and mystery of the ancients and had a collection of relics and reproductions.  Her choice to honor him was the Bronze Griffin Cremation Urn, a gold sarcophagus style with twin guardian griffins in bas relief surrounding the box as a symbol of protection. Such a beautiful style and a timeless design.

cardinal dali lamaSummer is winding down. The hummingbirds are fueling up for the journey south and the monarch butterflies are busy too. As the days get shorter, the leaves are in the early stages of turning color. All these changes tend to make me wistful. So sad to see the summer go. So many of our clients have had busy summers, dealing with family drama, illness, moves and the changing seasons of life.

Over the years, we’ve been working with artists to capture those moments that remind us that the spirit lives in the power of nature. Cremation urns that double as works of art and honor the essence of our loved one. It’s no secret that we’re crazy for Raku pottery and the urns and burial jars that a local husband and wife team create here in the Ozarks are also popular choices for the families we serve. They specialize in natural themes that resonate with our clients using dragonflies, feathers, and ferns that are hand carved into the clay and then fired to create amazing works of art.
